Youth Event Coordinator

HOPE DE SOUSA

I like to think of myself as a bubbly, fun-loving person who’s always ready to lend a helping hand. Whether it's through my loud and energetic personality or my passion for bringing people together, I strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued. I’m currently studying to become a primary school teacher, and my love for creativity extends beyond the classroom.

As the Youth Events Coordinator, my focus is on creating opportunities for young people to connect, engage, and build relationships within the LDSKCF community. I work closely with the main events coordinator to ensure that the youth have events that are tailored to their interests and needs. These events are not just about having fun (though we certainly do that!), but also about fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. Whether it's a social gathering, educational workshop, or a collaborative project, my goal is to create spaces where youth can bond, share ideas, and feel supported as they navigate life in the diaspora. I want every young person to leave our events feeling inspired and connected to something bigger than themselves.

In addition to planning and organizing events, I also play a key role in bridging the gap between the larger community events and those that are exclusive to our youth. This ensures that the younger members of our community have opportunities to be involved in the broader activities, while also having their own dedicated space to explore, grow, and express themselves. It’s important to me that our youth feel seen and heard, and that they have a platform to voice their ideas, interests, and concerns. By working closely with the leadership team and engaging with the youth, I am committed to creating experiences that help them build confidence, leadership skills, and a stronger sense of community. Ultimately, my mission is to create a space where our young people can thrive, build lasting relationships, and develop the tools they need to succeed both now and in the future.
